I am in agreement with the emails sent earlier. For everything that we are ordered to do, we do deserve a better deal. So many other districts are AMAZED at everything that we have to do within our schools. To take a pay decrease is an insult to our profession.
Where is the union leadership in this process? Where has been the communication? The transparency? Why has everything been done in such secrecy. It's almost impossible to get an answer to a question. These leaders of out union need to step up! How can we actually be told that this is the best we are going to get? This is absolutely unacceptable.

It's not like it's the first time that we have been told that. Last contract we were basically told we should be happy that we even have a job!

Something else to consider besides the loss of money we will have to endure, they are only offering a two year contract. So, in about 6 months or so we will be doing this again (losing money!). They say they are doing this so in that time the economy may be better and they might be able to offer more. Who here believes in 6 months the economy has a chance of getting better. Possible, I see it worse and we will be at their mercy again; giving up more because of worse economic conditions (of course we will be worse off having taken the losses with this contract). We will have shown that we are willing to except their proposals, why not twice!

IF this contract passes, which included the 3 year insurance clause. Will that take away our ability to strike when we begin voting on the next round of negotiations (which probably will begin in 6 months) because we agreed to a portion of the contract?

We are the only profession with a college degree that must have a union because of these types of situations. I have never seen union rep. be so uninformed to the laws and guidelines...
All 93 administrators go a raise.....
Bottom line we should take, move up on yrs, insurance pay stays the same 3 yr contract
THEY HAD A SPLIT SALARY SCHEDULE HERE 11 YRS AGO DO NOT LET THEM FALL BACK INTO THEIR COMFORT ZONE...
GET RID OF SOME OF ADMIN. JOBS THEY ARE NOT SERVING THE STUDENTS... OUR DISTRICT IS NOT BROKE

Some notes:
-The district is saving over 36K in FY2013 on insurance costs for the whole district, but are now charging us saying they can't afford the insurance when in fact in board minutes (november) they are saving money.
-People are right about losing the year. If you compound that money over time it's thousands of dollars lost.
-Administrators pay no co-pay, nothing out of their checks, and have a different better insurance plan
-Adminstrators did take a pay freeze last year, but many have gotten double digit raises this year. I'm talking 16% in some cases. Spread that out it's an 8% raise per year. Not bad
-Administrator scandals, lawsuits, sexual harrassment, cheating on spouses, nepotism left and right. And we don't care about kids? Please
- Unqualified or no teaching experience administrators coming in and out of the classroom evaluating but have no experience in the subject their evaluating. Or have 1-3 teaching experience
-What bonus is Vickie talking about? We didn't get a raise this year and if we did it would have been over $1200, so it's a paycut. Let's call it what it is.
-A strike wouldn't be ideal, but for those that fear it.. the average for other districts (not Chicago) has been 2-3 days which many times you are retro paid for those days and each and every time you end up with a better offer than what was previous on the table. What are they going to do fire almost 2500 staff. That would go over well with the community.
We need to united and a huge part of that is information. Please send this forum out to k-12 staff so they can get the correct information before voting. God knows Vickie isn't going to try. She gets her 10K the minute this thing is done.

We should work to rule and only do what is outlined in our current contract until this is resolved. We need to show solidarity in more ways. Maybe only working our contracted hours would do what we want without having to strike. This is riduluous that we are always told this is the best we can get. I know a few people who have spoken up have been asked why they didn't go to the meeting. Just because I didn't go to a meeting at 4 doesn't mean I don't care or have an opinion. I am not available at that time and have family responsibilites. They should make the times more available and provide us with more opportunities to voice our opinions, but not like they are going to listen to them anyway.

If we can just move up a step for every year we should, I think most people would be ok with that. Also, we should get additional $600 dollar raise because we don't need union dues taken out.

If I lose my step being in my 12th year teaching I would end up losing over $30,000. I do not see the $1,200 as being acceptable. Now think if it's only your 2nd year. The step is never yours to begin with, steps need to be negotiated every contract. How can you lose something you have never had. There is no step, there is only what is negotiated.

I would like to ask one thing. Is anyone aware if there were any persons from BHS on the negotiation committee. I feel our school has not been heard...... It seems many other district schools are not happy...... If you work at another school in our district, and feel that the proposed contract is acceptable, please explain which school you work at, and why the feeling about the contract is positive.....and once again why.....

Terrible contract, what do we have to lose by going to mediation? We lose money every year, and insurance is a killer, maybe admins should start paying for it too...

I can see our strike signs now.... "2% raise is not enough", "$1200 bonus is an insult." The press and community is going to eat us alive.
