Just vote NO!!!
It is bad enough that we are devalued by much of society for what we do, so we need to look to each other for support on what we deserve. And we deserve fair compensation and the right to collective bargaining. Why would anyone want to work a job knowing that as the cost of living increases each year, they will be making less money than the year before? We should not feel any pressure to vote yes because "it could get worse."

An e-mail went out to the entire district asking for volunteers to be on the contract negotiation team. No one from BHS wanted to be on it. That is why your voices weren't heard.
Every person reading this had the opportunity. Our union president and vice president ran unopposed, if you are upset stop making message boards and get involed in a way that actually matters.

I can see our strike signs now.... "2% raise is not enough", "$1200 bonus is an insult." The press and community is going to eat us alive. Ugh... fear is something that will only serve to keep us down. How about a sign that says..."where is my 66 thousand dollar bonus?"

Being paralyzed by fear is what district leadership is hoping for.....
Just reflect at all the changes that have been made and enforced over the last 7 years or so. And how many people never really spoke up because of fear. Think about how many people just complied because of fear. Reflect on how many people are afraid that they are going to be targeted next by administration "aka Jim's Puppets" and loose their job or be placed on remediation.
Stop making decisions on fear.

My question is this, what is our plan of action after we get a No vote for the second contract? Do we go to mediation right away? Can we admit our intent to strike?
Does anyone know what our rights are as Union Members? I feel like we are not being told the entire story here. This is NOT the best they can do for us. We deserve better treatment than we are receiving from the District and more importantly our Union.

Hey everybody, It looked like everybody has many different concerns they would like to discuss. As such, I broke the message board up into multiple, more specific topics so you could organize your thoughts better. I also put in a poll so we can see how we are feeling about this proposed contract. Here is a better link to use from now on. vvsd2013contract.freeforums.net/index.cgi?board=general

Ummmm, can I do a google search and get to this? It just seems like a bad idea to have bolingbrook teachers writing on a board that can be viewed by the entire world. Whoever made this should take this down, this is a very bad idea.

I have no problem with the concerns people have about the contract. What I do have a problem with is how someone can say that the union board is only out for themselves. That becomes personal as I am on the team. Please explain this to me. In what way have I negotiated only for myself? I don't understand how you can say in one breath that this is the worst contract ever and then say that we negotiated it for our own interests? I am NOT AT ALL offended by anyone's issues with the contract, but I am offended by that. Before you carelessly throw comments like that around, please be aware that I (speaking only for myself) have spent hundreds of hours away from my three young children in this endeavor on behalf of this membership, whether you approve of our efforts or not.

The link has been shared with Jane Adams....I think we need to start posting exactly what we want put back on the bargaining table. I think no contract is good without retro pay and I think we also need to get our step (plus a raise even if its minimal). And just like the district we need to go in high to give ourselves some wiggle room. You can believe that the district knew full well that they would eventually be willing to go up to 1200.00...starting at 1,000 was just a good strategy tactic.

I did not know that Admin does not pay insurance. From any stand point that is unfair.

It is a sad state of affairs, this contract. If you want decent pay and health insurance, vote no. Stand up and be heard. Otherwise, do not complain about the pay and benefits. You get what you fight for. Yes, Admin got their nice raises. We are in the trenches. Time to get paid for what we do.

Rachel,
I don't know why anyone is saying that you or the team are negotiating for themselves. I don't believe that, as long as you're an active teacher or staff memeber. The fact of the matter is that Vickie has negotiated two really bad deals and then what seems to the membership as selling them as great deals or the best possible. People also know that she retired last year which culminated in a contract that she (and us) got (20%) over four years. So she definitely knows what a good deal looks like. I don't think anyone is expecting 20% over four years, but what's on the table is ridiculous and insulting. Many people know where the money goes to and the amount of money that is wasted on many things. Admin trips to Sante Fe, Portland, and Las Vegas in the last two years alone. Terrible institute speakers at 25K a piece plus expenses. Krause as a consultant for $500 a day. I could go on forever. The point being is that Vickie has no skin in the game as she is retired. I am sure the negotiating team spent a ton of time on this deal, but I'm confused as to why. First of all, if after the 92% no vote didn't rattle the cages of the AC then as a membership team you need to take more drastic steps, not spend 4 months negotiating another terrible deal. Also, the AC is always going to tell you this is the best deal you're going to get. What else are they going to say? For the record, people at the AC even think this is a bad deal and have said so. And if you feel it is not a good deal then you need to get that message to the membership through word of mouth or building reps. Standing on a stage defending a bad deal and trying to sell it as if it's gold or throwing in $200 right before the vote is just a slap in the face. A wise man once said...
Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining.
Tell Vickie to stop peeing on my leg
Fair deal to me....
-9% over three years. 2% for 2012-13, 3% 2013-2014, 4% 14-15 -Retro pay for this year. -No skipping of steps -No two-tier system -No insurance changes. Or half of proposed. (single $150) (family $300) -AC same insurance as us.
People also forget that pension reform is coming and with that comes more money from our checks.
